Googles Android-Font: Kostenlose Schrift Roboto

Die Schrift „Roboto” wurde mit Android 4.0 eingeführt. Sie kann jetzt kostenlos heruntergeladen werden.

Roboto has a dual nature. It has a mechanchical skeleton and the forms are largely geometric. At the same time, the font features friendly and open curves. While some grotesks distort their letterforms to force a rigid rhythm, Roboto doesn’t compromise, allowing letters to be settle in to their natural width. This makes for a more natural reading rhythm more commonly found in humanist sans serifs.

Die Schriftfamilie wurde speziell für Benutzeroberfläche und (mobile) Bildschirme mit hohen Auflösungen erstellt. Google erlaubt die Nutzung der Schrift ohne Einschränkungen. Ich habe sie testweise mit einen Online-Generator als Web-Schrift umgewandelt, so dass man sie auf einer Webseite einbinden kann: Beispiel anschauen (Schriftschnitt Black).
